Indy is my special little foster. She came to GSRA because a family who rescued her noticed she had an unusual gait and they did not have the means to have her evaluated. Thanks to GSRA, she was able to get a proper report on her condition.

She was diagnosed with a condition called Myotonia Congenita. This condition affects her muscles but barely stops her from doing anything. If she becomes overly excited, she may walk with a bunny hop gait or stiff legs. After she takes 5-6 steps, she walks without difficulty. I take her on 1-3 mile walks daily and she does fine. She can climb some stairs but it’s best she is not in a house with too many stairs. She is ball crazy and lives to play ball. From the moment she wakes up until she is ready for bed, Indy will try to play ball. She is house trained and she free roams my house when I’m not home, absolutely no issues. She is a very easy dog and will get attached quickly. She loves riding in the car.

The best home for her would be a place with limited stairs. She probably would do better with an older companion dog because she can’t play like a traditional dog plays. That however does not limit her from playing with a ball. The neurologist at NC State confirmed that her condition does not shorten her life overall so she will be a joyful little girl and part of a family for years to come.
