SAGE ~1 year old. Good with dogs and cats. Not good with kids. Will only be adopted as bonded pair with Jaeger.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Sage is an extremely special little girl! On her own, she is just about as perfect as a dog can be. She is smart, intuitive, playful, cuddly and gets along beautifully with all creatures, great and small. She is petite and pretty, house and crate trained, rides wonderfully in the car and is the kind of dog you can take anywhere with confidence. Although she was found as a stray, we are sure Sage has been a house dog at some time in her approximate 1 year life span as she never missed a beat when brought into her foster home and quickly claimed the couch as her Princess throne. The ONLY negative thing we can say about Sage is that she grabs treats a little too hard and needs to learn some decorum when taking food from someone's hand!

Like we said, on her own, Sage is puppy perfection! But you see, what is TRULY special about Sage is what she has been able to do for her foster brother Jaeger!

If you read Jaeger's Bio   you will learn that Jaeger is a very complex boy who simply never learned how to "dog". He had been in the rescue, and his foster home, for close to 18 months before he would allow his foster Mom to give him a hug. He slowly acclimated to the other dogs in his home, but he didn't really interact with them. Instead, he would stand on the periphery and watch them play, possibly wanting to join in, but not knowing how to go about it. When he could be caught unaware by his foster parents, they would pat him and love on him and he seemed to like that. However, he would never seek out their affection or even come when they called him. Jaeger seemed to be stuck in his own little world that wouldn't allow him to enjoy the safety and love that his foster parents and canine siblings wanted to show him. That all changed when  Sage  arrived!

Along with all the wonderful qualities described above, Sage has the purest spirit and kindest energy that Jaeger couldn't help but fall in love with. It didn't happen overnight, mind you, but over the course of a week, Sage gently encouraged Jaeger to interact with her. Then, one magical day, they began to play.... and they haven't stopped since! The difference in Jaeger since Sage came on the scene is literally night a day. Jaeger now exudes happiness and confidence that he never showed before. He initiates interactions with his foster parents and actually asks for pats and hugs. He wags his tail (something he never used to do), he begs for food, he gets up to mischief (stealing stuff from the house and burying it in the yard!), he comes when he is called. In short, he acts like a dog!! When Sage is not around (she has been boarded a couple of times) Jaeger doesn't totally regress, but he does hang back more. He will still come to his foster Mom when she calls him, but there is a hesitancy in his eyes that is never there when Sage is around.

Put simply, Sage appears to be Jaeger's Emotional Support Dog.

This is why the rescue has decided that Sage and Jaeger must be adopted out as a bonded pair. Together they make just a wonderful puppy pairing. Sage is a friend to all, Jaeger is protective of his home and family. Sage doesn't understand the idea of personal space, Jaeger is happy to be around people, but not on top of them. Sage is an Energizer Bunny who is always on the go, Jaeger enjoys taking naps in the sun. Sage gets anxious when left alone, Jaeger offers a calming energy that tells Sage everything will be ok. They honestly fit together as seamlessly as Lady and the Tramp!

If you are interested in adopting Sage and Jaeger, please go and read Jaeger's Bio as he is a quirky young man who, regardless of Sage's influence on him, needs a very understanding and patient home. If you have the love and understanding in your heart to adopt a dog like Jaeger, then you will adore the dog he becomes when he has his dear little Sage by his side.
