HERCULES ~ 1.5 years old. Good with older/considerate children. Dogs and cats TBD.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Hercules is a stunning, large boy who attracts attention wherever he goes. He loves to go for a walk, ride in the car, splash around in water and chase ANYTHING that moves. He is very friendly with people and truly believes he’s a 20lb lap dog rather than the 90lb giant he really is.

At 18 months he is basically still a puppy and demonstrates puppy behaviors. He is mostly quiet and is not one to bark when he hears someone at the door, or even when he sees neighboring dogs. He still jumps up and holds your hand when he gets excited and due to these habits we are recommending no small children in his forever home. He has a super high prey drive - so no cats or small animals including small dogs.

Now that we have had a little more time with this handsome hulk of a boy, we feel more confident that Hercules can and probably would prefer to live with another large dog. He is a physical player and introductions will need to be slow, controlled and supervised. He is very excitable and tends to mouth other dogs, which at worst can be intimidating to another dog and at best annoying. He likes toys but more often than not he likes whatever toy is in another dog’s mouth. He likes to play chase and tug with his dog friends.

Due to his excitability I don’t think that he would be a dog that would do well with a large group of dogs in day care or dog park settings. As he matures and continues to improve his play manners this can be reconsidered.

Hercules will need a family that will continue basic training, he’s much too big and strong to not know how to behave well. Hercules is a typical GSD that likes to follow you everywhere but doesn’t have any social anxieties when left. He is not a fan of being crated but is learning that he doesn’t get to make the rules. He is relatively safe free roaming in the house but still needs practice before being considered reliable. Hercules is a really great young boy who needs a little work to make him perfect.
