ARLO ~1-2 years old. Good with kids, dogs, and cats.
GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only
Dogs live in the moment (rather than the past) so we don’t usually dwell on the circumstances that brings a dog to GSRA, but Resnik’s case is heartbreaking enough that it warrants mentioning—he was shot in the face by an apparent shotgun blast, shattering his lower jaw and ruining one eye. Many, many people pulled together to help him in the aftermath of this horrific event—from the animal control officer who found him to the shelter staff who got him emergency veterinary care, to the skilled veterinary team that put him back together again, to the many MANY individuals who donated so generously to cover his medical costs, and to his amazingly dedicated foster who hand-fed him for the 8+ weeks he had to wear an external brace that supported his lower jaw while it healed—all these people had a hand in giving Reznik the “happily ever after” that he is now ready for, and we are so grateful to them all.
So what do you need to know about Reznik? Well first off, Reznik is not Reznik, he is Arlo! So many people have been following his story that we are keeping him listed as Reznik, but Arlo is what he’s been answering to in his foster home. His jaw is completely healed and he should not have any medical complications as a result of his injuries. He did lose one eye though, giving him a permanent rakish wink, but he has adapted very well and gets along as well as any two-eyed dog.
Arlo is fully housebroken, non-destructive in the house, and does not need to be crated—in fact, he’s not actually a fan of the crate. He is friendly and outgoing with people and learns new things quickly. He knows basic commands, walks well on leash, and is good with other dogs and cats. He could be an only dog but he also loves to play and has a good play style with other dogs so would also do fine in a multi-dog home. Indoors he is quiet and will lay by your feet, but outdoors he loves to go for walks, hikes, and play fetch. We'd prefer him to go to a home with a fenced yard because he loves to run, but an active home with people who will walk him and give him plenty of daily exercise will also be considered.
So to summarize, Arlo/Reznik is the entire package!! Good with people, good with dogs, good with cats, good in the house. Who will be the lucky person who welcomes this lovely boy into your home and gives him the happily ever after he deserves?
