LOKI ~1 year old. Good with older considerate kids and large dogs. Not good with cats or small dogs.
GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only
Loki is a sweet loving boy who is housebroken & crate trained, neutered, heartworm negative, not good with cats, a high energy and a high play drive dog. He needs a yard to play in and daily walks to get his energy out or he'll be a frustrated mister and no fun to live with!
He can be a bit of a play bully with other dogs and he plays hard with them. So the other dog needs to be confident but not annoyed by Loki's wild play manners. He lives with a pack of dogs but only 2 of them like him, and a few others tolerate him. Loki likes most dogs, but most dogs don't like his high energy and bully-high gear style.
Loki loves the few friends that he has (people & dogs) and can be very sweet with those he knows...when he wants to be. But on leash in public, facing strange dogs & people he becomes fearful and reactive. It sounds like aggression but it's ALL fear! I've been working hard on his reactions in public and he has responded well to training! He can now pass people fairly closely without reaction! Loki has learned to ignore most of his scary things. When strangers come to my home, Loki has learned that he can meet them on leash when he's calm/quiet. Things go much smoother that way! On leash in public he still worries that the world will 'get' him. Loki needs an experienced owner who is willing to learn how to properly handle him so he doesn't have a meltdown.
Loki loves to go for rides in the car and rides very well (once restrained)! With proper handling he could grow out of his fears in time. I've taken Loki to loads of parks, the Art Museum grounds, downtown Raleigh and anywhere I can think of to get him used to people, dogs, bikes & strollers in public. Progress has been made to the point that I think he's ready for adoption! Yay Loki!
Lokis' energy is high, so for now I believe he needs a home with older children (11+yrs)and or a dog who won't take offense to his rugby style of play! Down deep Loki is just a scared, undersocialized little boy who needs the guidance & patience of someone who can see past his good looks and KNOWS there's a great dog ready to mature into a confident dog with time and work. He needs a leader, teacher and friend. Could that be you? Loki is READY...are you?!
