Meet Dori, an adorable, sweet 8 month old female German Shepherd who came to us just before hurricane Dorian (hence the name!).   Her breeder was evacuating and poor Dori was the only puppy not sold so he brought her to the local shelter.  The shelter was closing in preparation for the hurricane.  Although he was told there was no place for her, he did not care and just handed her over and drove away.    The shelter reached out to us and we just couldn't say no.

Dori is a typical puppy with lots of energy, spunk and she is super smart.  She has learned her basic obedience very quickly and is becoming a great ball player.  There is no game she doesn’t want to learn and engage in and she is a joy to work with.

Dori loves other dogs and we would like to place her in a home with a medium to large male companion dog.    WE WILL NOT PLACE HER IN A HOME WITH ANOTHER FEMALE DOG or small dogs.  Dori is starting to show signs of the typical female GSD behavior where she wants to be in charge and a placement with any female dog would not be a good match.

Dori has learned to walk well on a leash and loves car rides.   We are working on a touch of fearfulness in certain situations.  She must have had some bad experiences in her short life.  She was initially afraid of cars going by, and she must have been sprayed with a hose because she gets frightened when she sees one..  She is also afraid of baths, so we are working on that and her fear of water in general.   We are learning more about her every day, so her new family-to-be will need to continue her training and socialization to help her recover from things that intimidated her in the past.  Dori can be very skittish and nervous so we are working on building her confidence.  When she is with a male companion dog she does well and is learning from him.

Dori is a very happy girl, she loves being with her foster pack and is respectful with Linus, the training kitty.  She may do well with older dog savvy cats that are not very active. She doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive which is a wonderful thing!

Dori is spayed, current on vaccinations, on heartworm preventative, microchipped, crate trained, leash and basic obedience trained.  She is wonderful, sweet and affectionate.  She will bond very quickly with her new family.  However, she does lack confidence and needs positive reinforcement every day.  A male companion dog will help immensely with confidence building.

Dori's ideal home will have a A SECURE FENCED IN YARD, an EXPERIENCED Shepherd owner that will continue with her training and socialization  and a confident male companion dog .  We will not place her in a home with children under 12 years old because she has shown some fear and we will not place her with another female dog.

If you are interested in this beautiful, sweet girl,  please fill out an online application.  Any questions, you can contact Donna J. at BMSR1313@gmail.com
