Malay is a very sweet girl but came to us because she had some health issues. She has had various tests done and seems to be doing well healthwise at this time. We believe that she may have some immune deficiences but our vets have not been able to find anything conclusive. Malay is definitely going to be an alpha girl and needs to go to a home that is familiar with German Shepherds and will need a strong handler to keep her from becoming full of herself. If you are interested in giving this wonderful girl a forever home, please submit an application.

6 mo GSD Mix
Charlie is a 6 month old GSD mix. He currently weighs 30 pounds, and will probably be 60 pounds full grown. Charlie has been trained to sit, lay down, and shake paws on command. He loves chasing balls, but is still working on bringing them back. Charlie loves taking walks, and is well-behaved on a leash. He is very friendly around other dogs, all people, and some cats. Charlie would be a perfect pet for someone who has a big back yard to play in, and lots of love and attention to give him. His foster mom, Holly, rescued him from a kill shelter, and trained him for his new family. Small adoption fee to insure a good home.
If you are interested in Charlie, and would like to meet him, please call 910-514-1990, or email hfields89@yahoo.com.

Hondo is a neutered male, going to turn 4 in June, very friendly. He seems to get along fine with other dogs. He needs some leash work and maybe some obedience training. I was told by the people at the shelter that he was turned over to them because he does not get along with cats. Overall, he was well behaved and friendly. He has all of papers (AKC registration and pedigree) with him and is up to date on vaccinations. He is currently located at the Blue Ridge Humane Society. The contact information for the shelter is

This is Mia. She is a pure bred German Shepherd, spayed female, up to date on all vaccinations, flea meds, heartworm preventative. She is crate trained (large crate!), house broken (uses a doggie door), comes when called, likes other dogs, is 90 pounds. Mia is owned by a retired couple who also have three cockers. Mia is simply too large a dog for them to handle. She is very strong and on occasion has pulled while they've been holding her and has caused shoulder injuries to the person doing the holding. Mia has a very strong prey instinct and can NOT be around cats. We will NOT consider any home with cats, kittens, small animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, etc. She hates cats and our fear is with the instinct being that strong...even if she just played with them...it would be too much for a little critter to handle. Mia has NOT been with small children. If you are interested in Mia...please contact me via email or my phone number below. Mia resides in Brevard NC.

4 yr old GSD Mix
This is Redd. She is a German Shepard mix and completely red (strawberry blonde) in color. She is a very pretty dog. Redd is 4 years old. I got her from the Guilford County Animal shelter as a puppy. She is up to date with all her shots and fixed. She weighs about 65 - 70 pounds. She has been a good dog but has been increasingly challenging my 10 year old female dog. I believe she would be better off by herself or with a boyfriend. Redd is currently on an electronic fence and is trained to beep, not a shock. She obeys it very well.

SEX: Male
AGE: Approx. 1 1/2
VACCINATIONS: Yes-- up to date and neutered and had a complete physical within the last 4 months. Gibson is in excellent health.
TEMPERAMENT: Gibson is a very energetic dog who LOVES to play! He loves affection, and is a special, tender-hearted pup. He needs an owner who knows how to be a calm, assertive pack leader. He needs an owner who knows how to balance training, play, and affection. Gibson has struggled with separation anxiety-- I have worked him through his destructive phase. But he can still be anxious and needs an owner who has TIME for him and knows how to give him consistent, calm, stable, LOVING, leadership. I have seen someone attempt to train him by using punishment-- IT DOES NOT WORK. IT INCREASES HIS ANXIETY. He does not do well with a crate. He needs a fenced-in yard (do not put this dog on a tie-out-- he deserves more than that), perhaps another dog to play with, and probably no cats. He is increasingly more obedient-- this is one smart dog! He loves to ride in cars, too. If you can offer him a consistent, stable environment, postive and calm/assertive leadership, and TIME and energy, this dog may work well for you. This is one special dog!

GSD Mix
Ivy is looking for a forever home.
She is:
probably a german shepherd-mix (currently weighs 34 lbs.)
approximately 6 mos. old.
spayed
fully vetted
crate-trained
mostly housetrained
She loves to play with other dogs and toys; she rides beautifully in the car and is very affectionate.
She has started a training program and is doing very well. She can sit, lie down, and come (as well as any 6-month old puppy) when asked to. She even walks pretty well on a leash, already.
She’s very cautious about small children, so probably would need a lot of work getting used to them. She has a strong prey drive, so would chase small animals if they ran from her. This also means that she loves to chase balls, Frisbees, and other toys, and is therefore easy to exercise!
If you’d be interested in meeting Ivy to determine whether you’re the right home for her, please call or
e-mail her foster mom to make an appointment or to ask questions.

Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Current, rabies will be due in June Heartworm: Tested negative He is great with other smaller dogs, not sure how he reacts with big dogs He loves cats, children, the elderly and men and women He is house, crate and leash trained He is used to being outdoors during the day and inside at night He barks a lot during the day when he sees things but if you take him inside he is fine He is always quite while inside He will sit when commanded to if not too excited to listen He will shake when you ask him too especially when offered a treat He is very friendly, not afraid of strangers, loving, and lots of energy He will pull at the leash a lot when he first starts out on a walk but will settle down with a firm hand.
Cocoa needs a good home preferably with children. Cocoa used to belong to my brother and sister-in-law. He misses my niece and nephew who had to move to Texas. My brother called the day before they left in February and asked us to find him a home because they could not keep him and the shelters were and still are overcrowded and he would be put to sleep within a weeks time period if not adopted. We have been looking for a home for him for awhile with no luck so far. Most people want puppies not fully grown dogs.

How is he with other dogs/cats, etc.
Answer: Gee is in a home environment, with other cats and dogs, he is
kennel trained and is/wants to be the Alpha dog though, he been fine
with other neutered dogs, mostly big guldens. We had some little black
puppies up stair with us and they would go in and lay down with Mr.
Gee. I would still say that he needs to be the only male, in a family.
What is his heart worm status?
Answer: Negative
Is he neutered yet?
Answer: No unfortunately, we just hadn’t done it yet, we’ve had a lot
of vet visits with other rescues. At the time, he was too sick to have
surgery and the Vet wanted to see if he was going to come back around,
and we just hadn’t made it back there
Is he over having mange?
Answer: Yes full recovery, good coat, He does have a thyroid issue,
didn’t smell very good at the time, a very bad odor, but that has gone
away as well.
Any temperament issues with people?
Answer: Loves people and kids, very friendly, almost to friendly for a
BIG dog, he loves to jump in trucks, any ones truck, in the days at the
Ranger Station he would just lay there on the concrete porch and the
people would walk by, never any problems from the rangers view. When he
started feeling better, he would rub up against us, groan and moan
(happy ones) roll around in the grass, and throw his stuff animal up in
the air.
We think Mr. Gee is about 6 to 8 years old.

Liesel is 2 years old, spayed, all shots current, pure bred german shepherd (eligible for akc papers but has never been registered.) Liesel likes being inside but she needs a place with a lot of room to run and play. Her current owner lives on a busy street and feels Liesel needs a yard to run in AND more attention than what she can give an active dog like Liesel. Small adoption fee required.

GSD Mix
Sweetpea is a German Shepard Mix and is estimated to be about 8 month old female shepherd mix. She is a nice sized girl at approximately 70 lbs... She is very sweet and very submissive to humans and other dogs. Not only is she super affectionate, she also stays close to you like a shadow. Though Sweetpea is loyal, she appears not to have had much attention from her previous owners who dumped her and her buddy alongside a remote stretch of York County road. However, she is very intelligent and responds very quickly to training efforts, such as sit, stay, etc... In the 2 plus weeks she has been with us, we have not observed any bad habits, such as digging, mindless barking, etc... She has taken over our setter's doghouse and has made herself at home. Sweetpea needs a good home with owners who are prepared to give the attention she craves, and in return, they will be rewarded by her undying loyalty. She is just a super sweet dog that deserves a good forever home! Currently she is not fixed, but will be by the time she is adopted.
Please contact Dave at Pnetdave@aol.com if you are interested.

DOB: estimated July 2007
Coat: Rough shepard coat
Weight: ~80 lbs
Activity Level: Active Companion
Brutus is a German Shepard Mix and is about 8 months old, and very possibly "Sweetpea's" littermate. They were found together wandering on the same stretch of road. Brutus will be a larger dog as he is already over 80 lbs, and what a big love bug! This one will talk to you with every stroke of that big head, while at the same time, he does not bark incessantly while alone in the yard...and he is not a digger, either! He also craves attention and is very intelligent as he is responding very well to basic training. He and our Gordon Setter, previously a crabby, lone dog, have become best friends... If he can get along with her, I am sure he'll have no problem with any other dog! Currently, Brutus is not altered, but will be before he is adopted.
Please contact Dave at Pnetdave@aol.com if you are interested.
Neutered male 18 mo Beagle
Meet Mr. Beans. A happy, healthy neutered male Beagle, around 18 months old. Mr. Beans does great with other dogs and cats, truly a happy go lucky guy. His only hang up that I have found is that he isn't keen on small children. He would do best with a family that has children either older elementary age and up or no children at all. He loves to go for walks and keeps his nose to the ground, anxiously awaiting the next sniff of the world. He is so excited to be in a home and wants to spend his time with his foster family. He is crate trained during the day while we are at work but truly doesn't enjoy being in the crate as long as his family is around. He wants to be with his humans for all the love and affection they will give him. We are working on his manners and potty training and he is doing very well, although any new dog will benefit greatly from a structured obedience class. He is up to date on his vaccinations and has been treated for heartworms. He is on preventative now and doing great. I am asking for an adoption fee to help ensure Mr. Beans goes to a committed, responsible family. If you think you could provide the stability and love that Mr. Beans needs, please send me an email and I will send you an application. Looking forward to hearing from you.

8 Yrs Old
The female, Roxanne, still needs a place to call home even if a foster. She is actually 8 y/o and is a good girl. She would be better with a house that has grown kids or no kids and is great with cats. She also does well with dogs. She has some anxiety now but I think that is because she has had to go from a house/yard to an apt. 6 months ago and is cooped up in an apt. And she's not used to the noises in an apt. She is the lighter of the two shepherds in the pictures. She is from Germany and is a pure bred. I'm trying to think of any other things. She only needs the Pepcid and otherwise is healthy. Andrea has had her since she was a puppy from two AKC dogs - the family brought the parents from Germany to breed the dogs and got the puppy from them. Andrea has been giving Roxanne glucosamine/chrondrondine (sp?) since she was a puppy and she is up to date on shots and is fixed. Andrea used to be a vet tech so she has all of her information.

9 Yrs Old
Simon is a black and tan 50 lb German shepherd-mix approximately 9 years old. We rescued him in 2002 when we found him living on handouts and trash in a park near our former home. From his condition, he had clearly been on his own for at least several months, but he was sweet, energetic and eager to join our "pack". We fell in love right away. He didn't show any signs of trauma or abuse other than a BB under his skin. He had heartworms which we had treated and from which he has fully recovered. He has had some training and is very eager to please.
Simon is a loving and loyal companion. He is moderately energetic and really loves to go for a brisk walk every day. Although he's tolerant and trustworthy with adults and older kids, he is not comfortable around small children. He has bitten our 3-year old twice which is why we can't keep him any longer. He is not viscous or aggressive, and he would never attack a child. He just seems to be nervous in their presence. He can be aggressive with larger dogs, but he mostly ignores smaller dogs and cats.
He has a seizure disorder, which is under control with medication. He is also being treated for anxiety, which may be related to the seizure disorder and/or being around small children. He's up-to-date on all his shots.
Despite Simon's special needs, he is a wonderful companion for the right family without small children or larger dogs. It really breaks our hearts to have to part with him, but we know it's the best decision for our family.

Hi my name is Wiley. As you can see I am a very handsome mature Pom-Man at 8 years young. I have the colors of a fox and represent my comedian brother Wyle-e-Coyote very well! Hence my name Wiley. I am a pedigreed Pom with no papers. I live with 3 cats and love them. I am playful, but my best trait, is I am affectionate. I would love to just be a lap dog the rest of my life if possible. I am nervous around kids, and I think that's why my foster mom is so sad, because she wanted me for my forever home, but I just don't know about kids, they scare me, and they are so fast, I get nervous and I have snapped at them because I was so scared. I was hurt by my original master, I don't know what I ever did wrong, but he hit my with a broom and made me very scared of vacuums, he wasn't very nice to me, he didn't give me much food, so whenever I have food, I have to protect it. I also get really scared around feet because he used to hurt me with his feet. So, I am looking for a calm home where I can just lay in your lap all day and be all yours. I would love to accompany you in the car and on walks. I am potty trained so I can be in the house with you all day! My foster mom says I am very affectionate and just want to be loved. I just need someone who can help me, be patient with me, and love me for me even with these fears. Please call and talk to my Big Sis at:

We rescued him about 4 years ago from the pound, he is an inside dog and is not comfortable staying outside for long periods of time. He may have been crate trained at one time but I’m not sure.He is great with cats, we have had 3 thru the years that we fostered and found homes for. He is also good with other dogs. We have spent a lot of time and money on this dog and as far as the allergies go, that’s what the vet said he has. He has to eat a special kind of food and cannot deviate from that or he will have horrible diarrhea (we have replaced several carpets…so trust me we tried everything from chicken and rice to hamburger to brown rice and he is allergic to everything but fish and potato. The reason we have to find him a new home is we have a 20 month old son who has developed an allergy to him, my pediatrician has said he believes it’s the dog and I have taken my son out of the home for several days and his symptoms go away. I’m not willing to put my toddler thru a series of needles and shots at this time or have him take medication. We are located in Lexington South Carolina and I am willing to drive anywhere to find this guy the right home. Any other questions you can think of just let me know. He really is a nice dog, he’s just high maintenance, and needs a fenced yard!

Cole
Male, Black/Tan, just turned 7 yrs old this Feb, AKC registered and has
papers, microchipped
Vaccinations: receives them yearly, never has had any health problems, no
signs of hips displasia
What he likes to do: loves to play catch, search and find, very outgoing, has
a lot of energy, and is still like a puppy at heart
Cole is very independent and has been trained from the time he was 8 mo old,
he does need someone to work commands with him just to brush up on them, he is
somewhat animal aggresive(more towards cats)
Reni
Female, Black/Red, will be turning 7 yrs old in March, AKC registered and has
papers, microchipped
Vaccinations: receives them yearly, never has had any health problems, no
signs of hip displasia
What she likes to do: she is a total lover and will play if you engage her,
she is more of a lap dog
Reni loves to be pet and loved on, she has been trained from the time she was
8 mo old, she is aggressive towards other animals; however our trainer had put
her in with other dogs and she has done fine for him but I do not do that with
her. She is very good at walking on a leash and knows her commands, but just
like Cole she needs some brushing up.
Both dogs have been with my husband and I since they were puppies. They have been inside dogs their whole lives, but they do go outside during the day to get exercise and fresh air. If at all possible, I would like to see if I could get them adopted together because they have never been separated. They have been a true joy to have in our family. Both dogs are very friendly around all ages of humans. We have a 10 mo old son and they do very well with him and they have always done very well around our nieces and nephews. The reason we are not able to keep them is because my husband is in the service and we are moving overseas and will not be in an area condusive for their lifestyle.

8 year old, neutered Shepherd Mix
Location: New York City
Snoop is an 8 year old, neutered shepherd mix. He is great with both male and female dogs and also with my cat. He loves to play and fetch the ball, ...but then rip it apart. He also LOVES baths! His two favorite things about baths have to be the towel drying (where he likes to figure 8 through your legs afterwards) and the salon-style blow out...where he patiently stands in luxury and gets his blown dry. He also has 6 toes on both of his back feet...odd, I know but it's true. He LOVES treats and eating in general, and will ALWAYS remind you when it's feeding time. He also adores walks and will also let you know when it's time to walk...just in case you forget. (He is around 120 lbs. so he does require a strong handler.) Snoop is an extremely quirky and fun-loving dog. He would be best in a home with older children, as he is protective of his food/treats and toys. He has been in a foster home since July 3, 2007, and with each day has become healthier and more gentle and loving. This overlooked sweetheart could really use a comfortable, stable home environment, as he really has been patiently waiting.
If interested in Snoop, please contact Patty at New Yorkers for Companion Animals (NYCA) #: (212) 427-8273.

Opal is a 2 year old, beautiful, solid black, long- haired female German Shepherd. She’s a little shy at first, but quickly becomes the social butterfly. She has not been spayed but is current on all vaccinations.

Deacon is an athletic, handsome, solid black 2 year old male German Shepherd. Unfortunately, he was not socialized well as a puppy, so he may do best as the only dog in a household or with another female dog and should not go to a family with kids. His shyness aside, he is a very intelligent and loyal young dog with a lot of potential for someone who can give him the time, love and structure that he needs. He has not been neutered but is current on all vaccinations.

Stray
Hi, my name is Jack. I am a stray looking for a place to call home. I am a little shy at first, but once you rub my belly, I will be your best friend. I love any kind of attention. I will bond very well with someone who is kind to me. Please give me a chance, I deserve a forever home. 910-728-6176
GSD
6 yrs old
Brayden is a truly delightful, 6-year-old, high-spirited, playful female GSD. She has been spayed, and is on regular heartworm preventative. She is very loving, and thrives on human attention - she would be a lap dog if your lap is big enough! I adopted her just before Christmas of 2006, so I am not familiar with her early training. She is obedient, house-trained and crate-trained, in fact she seems to feel some security in her crate - she will often just go get in it and lie down all on her own. The reason I am looking to rehome Brayden is that I have just learned that she has diabetes. This is a highly treatable condition and will cost at most about $40/month for meds. In addition, it should not have any impact on the future quality of her life. The ONLY reason I am giving her up is because her treatment regimen (twice daily injections) and my work schedule is more than I can manage with alone.
If you are interested in learning more about Brayden, please email me at ktrivette@mhaworks.com
URGENT He is an unfixed male, friendly with kids, other dogs, goats and horses. Unfortunately, because he is unfixed, and we have several females and 1 fixed male dog, we have to keep him in a large pen at the moment. He was found wandering the Tractor Supply shopping center parking lot in Rocky Mount, NC, on 1/22/08. His neck fur was ruffled such that it looks like he had a collar at one time, but he was not wearing one when we found him.

Presenting Sir Benedict Corduroy von Freeway, known to his new friends as “Benny”. He is a young adult male, could have some Shepherd/Lab/and/or maybe Plott Hound. He was rescued on New Year’s Day from an off ramp along Highway 85 in Georgia where he had apparently been stranded for several weeks. Benny appears to be dog social and kid friendly, fine with cats. He is a little shy but curious about/open to new dogs/people/situations. He is gentle and a little silly, is very happy to make new friends, and can’t seem to believe his luck that he’s getting so much care and attention. He will have a strong bond with whoever adopts him, so they need to be ready for a serious relationship! He’s with me now, but I’m over-capacity and need to find him a good rescue, foster or forever home. He is neutered, HW negative, UTD on shots, microchipped, and generally very healthy.

German Shepard Mix
4 yrs old
4 year old Male sheperd mix House trained, neutered, and loyal Is skiddish around new people, but warms up as he gets used to them. Not too good with young children, their quick movement scares him. Inside dog, ok to be left alone, likes to ride in cars. Good around other dogs.
He is due this month for his rabies shot, and is behind a few months on heartworm, due to my husband being laid off, but he was tested a few months ago and results were negative. We have never had a problem with fleas, so we haven't given him a preventative.

German Shepard Dog
His name is Tank, and is a little over 1yr old. He is a NO CATS dog, and I have been very cautious with other dogs because he has had very little socialization. He does live with a female Golden Retriever, and has been around the neighbors dog, but that is it. As for kids, he is GREAT. He loves kids. I have a 5yr old and a 10 yr old, and have never had any problems with him around them. The neighborhood children come over to play and he loves playing with them all. He is a little rough and will knock a smaller child down, but only on accident, but I don't recommend that he be placed with very small children. He needs an experienced owner and someone willing to take time to enforce the obedience he has learned.

Lab/Golden Retriever/Shepard mix
6 mo old
This female lab/golden retriever/shepard mix was rescued from a person that was not giving her any shelter, food or water. maggie had been adopted a few months ago, by a co-workers neighbor, but the owner did not abide by the contract he signed. i found out that he was letting her run loose in the neighborhood instead of building the fence that he said he was building. he didn’t give her any flea treatment or hw pills and when i asked him why he lied to me each time i called him to check on her, he said that he decided he couldn’t afford another dog and his wife said to get rid of her. poor maggie has had a hard life from the day she was born and only being 6 months old, she didn’t deserve to be neglected again. she was born 4/25/07 and loves people especially children and other animals. she is very intelligent, affectionate, house and crate trained, walks well on a lease and will be a great companion. she weighs 48lbs, has been fully vaccinated, had her rabies shot and was spayed a few weeks ago. her adoption fee is $100.00.
If you would like to give this sweet girl a good home or help by fostering her, please call

GSD
1.5 yrs old
113 lbs.
Dude is a full blooded 1 1/2 year old German Sheperd. He is a black GSD and he is a very big boy. Dude weighted 113 llbs at his last vet visit about 2 weeks ago. Dude is housebroken and crate trained. Dude is very silly and loves to play. The reason we are unable to keep him is we already have another very large dog and we just don't have the room. We rescued Dude from Animal Control as he was turned in by his previous owner at only 3 months old and he was already malnourished. We are unable to provide Dude with the training and attention that he really deserves. Dude is very smart but extremely stubborn. Dude is good with kids and other dogs. Dude loves affection and will follow you everywhere. Unfortunately Dude does have a slight limp but his vet says he doesn't have hip dysplasia. That's not to say he may not get it though as he is still very young. Dude needs a great home and parents who have the time and attention that he needs.

German Shepherd Mix
Rosie is a black and tan spayed female German Shepherd mix puppy. She was born in March 2007, and spent the first part of her life chained under an old car in front of a crack house. After a police bust in the neighborhood, the house's occupants fled leaving Rosie chained and helpless. Animal Control discovered her thirsty, hungry, and belly deep in her own feces.
Despite her rough beginning, Rosie is outgoing, playful, exuberant, truly a puppy who saw lemons and made lemonade! She is up to date on all vet work and is doing well on house training.
If you are interested in adopting Rosie, please fill out the adoption application on GSRA's website. Although Rosie is a referral dog, GSRA will be screening applicants interested in adopting her.
