JULIUS ~1.5 years old.  Good with kids, dogs his own size, and cats.  Not good with small dogs.

GSRA Adopts in NC, SC, & VA ONLY

Meet the very cute & friendly Julius, another pup with the distinctive look of one ear up & one ear down.

Julius is a delightful young man; very well behaved, crate & house trained and well on his way to being a polite leash walker. Julius is currently living with 3 adult female GSDs and another pup. He seems to love most dogs, although he is a little too fascinated with really small dogs! For that reason, we are recommending a home with dogs his own size. Julius loves to play with his foster sisters, especially his little foster sister Darcy. The 2 of them will play and wrestle and chase each other until they are absolutely exhausted. Once the games are over though, Julius is happy to settle in the house, either on the floor or on the couch next to you.

Julius is the kind of dog who needs a routine in order to feel safe and secure. When he is first introduced to a new environment or schedule he becomes unsure of himself and can exhibit symptoms of separation anxiety, such as breaking out of crates or digging under fences. This needs to be watched very carefully in a new home so that Julius doesn’t hurt himself or try to make a run for it! All it takes though is a week of clear, focused routines for Julius to understand what is expected of him and he falls into line perfectly. Given his propensity for anxiety though, Julius needs a GSD savvy home with a fairly constant routine, plenty of exercise and ideally a canine buddy with whom to play.

Although Julius is still very young (just over a year old) he has already been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. His hips have been x-rayed and evaluated and the vet does not recommend any surgery at this time . Although the x-rays reveal dysplasia in both hips, Julius does not show any signs of discomfort or issues with running, playing, jumping or even wrestling. It is possible years down the road surgery may be required, but then again he may never need it.  We can't tell the future.  What we can say is despite this discovery, Julius can live a full and long life.

The ideal home for Julius would be one that is looking for a lovable, active, smart boy with whom to share lots of walks, car rides and snuggles on the couch. Because of his hips it is recommended that Julius not become a running buddy or a mountain climber! A companion dog would be great to give Julius company during the day while his humans are at work. We are also recommending that whoever adopts Julius takes obedience classes with him to both grow his self-confidence and to cement a strong bond with his new family.

Julius is an awesome young dog who is ready to make your family complete!
