VIXEN ~4 months old.  Good with older considerate children, dogs and cats.  Needs companion animal.

Meet Vixen! Vixen is one of the “Christmas pups” rescued around Thanksgiving of last year, hence the name. She is about 4 months old now and as sweet as she can be. She loves everything and everyone! About 30lbs and still growing but I don’t think she’ll get much bigger then her mom who is about 65lbs. Her momma Hope is in a couple of the pictures, and you can see how they love each other and love to play.  As a matter of fact, out of all the dogs in the house, Hope is the only one who will really play with Vixen and boy can they play! Vixen loves to run and as all puppies do chew, so far she’s been pretty good about chewing toys and bones but again, she’s a 4 month old pup and has some teething going on.

She’s crate trained already, helps when you feed them in a crate and teach them early on but she’s not quite 100% house trained yet.  She can’t seem to hold it throughout the night and has some issues when she’s running and playing hard.  I’m still working with her on it but it’s more my fault then hers, she just needs to learn. She’s super smart and very attentive so I know she’ll learn quickly if you put in the time and effort.  I started her out young sleeping on the bed with me in the hopes I would hear or feel her stir if she had to go out so she has turned into a huge cuddle bug! She sleeps on the bed all night long now and when she tires out and is ready for a nap she’ll get up on the couch with me and curl up.

As far as playing, if she tries to play with a dog who isn’t too crazy about the puppy energy she just rolls over on her back and crawls up to them licking their face. It’s pretty funny unless you are the grumpy dog I guess. I would say she’s more submissive then dominant when it comes to other dogs but she can be persistent when trying to “make friends”. She loves toys and tennis balls, in fact she can entertain herself if no one will play with her, and she loves the water. We have a baby pool and she routinely comes inside soaking wet.

Vixen will need at least one companion dog who enjoys playing and running with her, if they don’t she’ll drive them nuts. An adopter will need to take her to a basic obedience class as she is only just learning some manners, she is not used to a leash or leash walks since I have a big backyard for her to run and play in. She rides in a car great and is getting to the point where she isn’t scared anymore. I’ve brought her to a couple of adoption events to help socialize her and she was with her litter mates until she was 9 weeks old, so lots of good socialization time there.
