UPDATE:

Now that Bowie has been in his foster home for a while, many more of his admirable GSD qualities are emerging.

Being a smart, mature GSD, Bowie will not waste his barks if other dogs in the house are already “on it”. He will move with the pack to the area that needs GSD attention, but only barks if there is a real need.

Although not a fan of the cold, Bowie moved through the snow covered back yard recently to deter Canadian geese from pillaging the bird feeders. He stood guard at the fence and only barked when the large, loud geese approach the yard. Bowie enjoys lounging in the sun watching the song birds visit the feeders, but has a “no squirrels allowed” policy. Even though Bowie is a strong guardian, his patience is that of an old soul. He is not bothered when his very small foster brother wants to warm up in the small of Bowie’s back.

Do you like to workout at the gym? On a treadmill? Alone? Or not at all? If so, Bowie is perfect for you. He doesn’t need daily runs or long walks to burn off extra energy. He likes a leisurely walk around the yard or up to the mailbox.

Do you like your shoes and furniture to look the same when you come home as when you left? If so, Bowie is right for you. He is completely trustworthy and can be left out with other dogs for several hours.

Bowie is the whole package: Love, loyalty, and gentle guardian. Is the package right for you?

==================================================================

Back in July 2013, an ACO officer found Bowie as a stray. Considering where she found him, he was most likely used as bait dog. He was emaciated, his bite wounds were full of maggots, and he was covered in fleas. The officer gave him a bath that night and he let her gently clean his wounds. When she reached into his dog bowl, he just kept eating. It is beyond words to describe what abuse Bowie has suffered at the hands of such vile people.

Fast forward to present day. Bowie has made an almost full recovery. His wounds have healed and skin issues are much improved although still require some attention. He does take a little extra time getting up and down, but don't let this deter you. Bowie, once up, is quite the mover and shaker! And in true sheppie fashion, he is a velcro dog and wants nothing more than to be near you. Because of his trouble getting up and down, a home with as few stairs as possible, both indoor and outdoor, would be best. Some carpet to give him a little traction would also be an added plus.

Bowie gets along well with the other foster dogs in the home both big and small. Although he eats dinner in a crate, as house rules dictate, he currently has free reign of the house since his manners are impeccable and he is completely house trained. Bowie wants to please and to know what you want of him. His deep sighs as he settles to rest let you know he is almost content. His troubles are over and although his skin still needs some special attention, it is time for him to settle into that amazing forever home that he so deserves. Oh, and one of Bowie's favorite of all time things is to get belly rubs and to be brushed!  So what do you say? Do you have what it takes to provide this handsome fella with his perfect forever home?
