(6 yrs, 10 mo) Good with dogs, cats and kids.  Senior and apartment appropriate.

Do you have a forever home for this darling senior? Gabby is a mellow gal with a playful side. She is super-curious but not mischievous, and absolutely LOVES pats. Gabby gets along well with others, even her big foster brother, despite his not wanting to play all the time. According to her x-rays, she has a bad right hip, but despite that, she really enjoys her daily walks in the forest and is building up her stamina after what we suspect was a life confined in a breeder's kennel. She is a little wobbly when she first gets up on our hardwood floors, but then takes the stairs with no problem. (We have to keep her from jumping over huge logs on her walks - she's surpringingly agile.)

Per her paperwork, Gabriella was born in Jan 2005, raised by a breeder. From there it's a little fuzzy, but it appears her most recent owner surrendered her to the  Macon County shelter, where GSRA rescued her. They contacted the folks on her microchip but they didn't want her! Not surprisingly, she was heartworm positive, but went through treatment like a champion. You can tell she does pine for the much cooler days that she may have had in the Western NC mountains, not wanting to spend a lot of time lying around outside in the muggy Piedmont summer for no reason. She has found her favorite cool spots on the fireplace slate behind foster mom's chair or watching the neighbors from inside the glass front door.

Gabby is great in the car, and settles down quietly and super-quickly for her ride. She's also great on leash - foster mom can walk both her and foster bro with one hand! (She was pulling at first, but we realized it was because other pups were ahead of her. If her handler is in the lead, she heals just fine!) She is crate trained, but we only have her in the crate for meal time and when we are not home; she sleeps on a big bed with her foster brother in the bedroom.

She always wants to know where you are, but also loves independence and can wander off on her own (Did we mention she was curious? There was one shoe casualty, but all other are still intact.) We're working on her commands - sit, stay, come - she gives a paw, but it's mostly on her own terms, when she wants more pats. (She's quite "paw-y" so could probably be taught to wave and pray pretty easily, but she also has her own idea of what she needs to know!)

She loves squeaky, floppy stuffed toys, and looks like a puppy when she tosses one to herself and tries to whip the life out of it. She's a little bold about trying to take a toy out of our other dog's mouth. He's a wimp, but many other dogs wouldn't stand for that, so we're encouraging her not to do that.

Gabby is quite loyal and make a dedicated companion to her new family. Lots and lots of love should be in store for this well-deserving girl who will give all of that love back a thousand-fold.
