(9 years old) The ACO told my story as he knew it: A call came in of a bloody German Shepherd Dog found tied to a fire / rescue truck. They guessed I’d been shot. A Shelter Friend was given the choice to take me into their care or put me down. You already know the decision - and two vet techs began clipping my open wounds with tears streaming down their faces. The vet’s exam showed I was an older fellow suffering from severe malnutrition and decubital ulcers – bedsores – from laying in the dirt unable to get up. For how long he couldn’t say, and I’m not talking. It was five days before I could stand on my own.
Fast forward six months. Loads of loving care and I have gained 25 lbs. I am devoted to my foster family and get along well with their four dogs – three males and one female. Not so their cats. We go for long leash walks every day so I have built up muscle and coordination. They still call me clumsy and rickety, but hey I’d like to see you after you have lived so long.
Foster notes: Lukas has a great and totally GSD personality. He wants to be at your side and leaps to his feet whenever you stand up, ready to go. He is the talkingest GSD and has a lot to say about everything. WooWOO!!! His dark eyes are expressive and watch you intently. He has gained a lot of muscle and walks with us a couple miles/day. He has a beautiful trot and glides back and forth along the fence while I feed our livestock. He is affectionate and wants constant contact. He is neutered, crate-trained, house-trained and non-destructive.
