Koah is an incredibly sweet, goofy, energetic, and happy-go-lucky purebred 5-year-old German Shepherd. She is highly driven and responsive to her owner as she comes from a working line of shepherds. She has great recall and is completely ball and frisbee obsessed. She is a great frisbee dog, has taken and excelled in scent training, and would make a great partner for anyone willing to work her as she is singularly focused on her task if a ball or frisbee is involved in the work or as a reward. She travels well in the car and loves going for trips and rides.

While in the house, she is very docile and cuddly, often snoozing in what I call the "dead bug" position with her legs tucked in the air on her back. Even while in relaxation mode, she always has her ears tuned in to what is happening around her and is quick to alert if someone has pulled up to the house. Even though she's an absolute lover, she has a fearsome bark and makes for a great watchdog. She has grown up around and frequently lives alongside cats, kittens, ducks, chickens, horses, pigs, rabbits, and opossums and she is both very tolerant and indifferent to their presence. While there undoubtedly is prey drive that exists within her, I have yet to see it with other species of animals. Koah is also very good with and tolerant of young children. I've never seen an act of aggression or irritation towards any human, except to bark at dog walkers from behind a fence, window, or leash.

She walks very well but is dog-reactive on leash and from behind barriers, i.e., barrier reactivity. However, off leash with other dogs and at supervised doggy daycare and training, she does very well. She has grown up in a house with 2 large female dogs and is very sweet and affectionate with them; however, she has had problems with a new smaller 35-lb female dog in the house. I have to travel frequently for work and while under the care of different pet sitters, she has been involved in fights with this smaller dog, so I'm unsure of whether its prey drive towards small dogs or if it's the result of posturing gone awry between two dominant females since I'm not there to witness it. I love Koah immensely but am concerned about her wellbeing, the potential for a pet sitter to get inadvertently bitten breaking up a fight by either dog, and the pet sitters' responses to her when I'm away. My multiday work trips where she is under the care of strangers are very stressful for her resulting in her acting out or getting sick.

I want her to go to an active home with working dog experience. Someone with experience with K9 or working dog handling is a must. Additionally, she should have a decent sized fenced-in yard and someone who would love to work her or play ball with her. Given her issues with the small dog in the home, it would be best that she does not go to a home with small dogs or dominant females. Koah is an absolute joy to have around the house and imparts a special sense of fun and security. She is an absolute dream if you have familiarity with working shepherds. Please contact me if you have working dog experience and are interested in providing Koah a loving home.
