Greetings, Troops!
Colonel here, reporting for duty.

Are you looking for a new recruit? Let me tell you some of my traits per the evaluation by my CO here at Base Mint Hill:

Recently, my CO took me in to the vet - they loved me. But, they listened to my heart and heard a little murmur. My CO had something called an "echocardiogram" done, and it turns out I have minor (3 out of 6) pulmonary valve stenosis. What does that mean? Beats me! It doesn't affect me at all. However, my CO said there is a chance in the future that I will need to be on medication. The doctors said I should have another test done in 6 months, and then they can see if there are any changes. I should NOT be on a grain-free diet, and there are a couple drugs they shouldn't use if they have to knock me out. Otherwise, I just live my life and give out all the kisses I can. Could you love a guy with a little bit of a broken heart?

I LOVE people - all people. People are my favorite things - more than treats, more than toys...PEOPLE. I should do fine with older considerate children (I'm a good boy and don't jump on people) and would love to follow them all around and see what they're up to.

Because I love people, I want to BE with people - I do not want to be left out back by myself, or home alone for really long periods of time. Wherever you are is where I want to be. Working from home? I'll hang out at the office door. Working out back in the garden? I'll find the closest shady spot and keep an eye on things. Going for a walk? Pick me, pick me!
I am a medium energy guy - I love to play, do zoomies in the yard, and take walks, but I can chill out on the couch and watch your favorite movie just as easily. And if you're willing to share your bed, even better! But, I will sleep quietly on my own bed just as well.

I will chase a squirrel or two so a fenced yard is a must. But I am not obsessed with them (like, ahem, my foster sister!). I just show them who is boss with a rush and a bark and then I'm done.

I'm a very quiet dog. I will alert if someone comes to the door...sometimes. If I'm being silly, I'll snort and snuff and roll all around on my back and sometimes bark but otherwise you don't hear me much.

I am a quick learner because I just want to make my people happy. My CO is working with me on "sit", "down", "wait" etc. I walk decently on a leash and am learning daily. She's also working with me to learn to leave the garden hose alone long enough for her to water the garden - I love that hose and trying to get all the water. Maybe if you had a kiddie pool I could use it to cool off on hot days?

I have recently met...dum, dum,dum...a CAT! And guess what? I liked him! He on the other hand wasn't too thrilled with me initially, but with careful introductions, I should do just fine with a dog-savvy cat.

I have a foster sister who is smaller than me and we play and play. She doesn't let me boss her around though and if she says "no" I am respectful and back off. I have a friendly greeting for all dogs large and small. However, my CO doesn't believe I need to have another dog to be happy - just people.

My CO is working with me on using a crate. I don't really like it, to be honest. Slowly she is showing me that the crate is not a punishment by feeding me my dinner in it and then letting me out shortly after. So now I run right in it and will hang out in it for up to 30 minutes. But I am also trustworthy in the house by myself without being crated.

I will get right in the car but am anxious - we're working on that too. As I realize that it is a device to take me fun places (park or greenway, anyone?) I will relax in it more and more.

As you can see, I am extremely handsome, with a long, curly, fluffy coat. Girls especially can't resist me :-) I like to be brushed gently and my feathers on my tail wave proudly when I am running around.

So, am I the new recruit you're looking for? Are you the right squad for me to spend the rest of my life with? Let's meet and see how it goes!
