Foster Diary:
Meet Sabrina, one of our newer GSRA Shepherds. Sabrina is about 5 years old and has not had the chance to live in the lap of luxury like all dogs should before she got to the rescue. Now she has an awesome foster dad and cool foster brother Cale, a GSRA alumnus. She was very shy at first but she is really starting to come out of her shell now, playing with Cale (well, maybe not the way Cale wants to play), learning to play with a tennis ball (she hasn’t quite gotten the “fetch” part yet), and learning to swim in the lake, that’s right, Sabrina just loves the water! She also loves to snuggle

up to you if you sit on the floor, she will put her head on you to pet her or, like all GSD’s, she’ll get your attention with her paw. She loves to go for walks and explore new places and things and she is doing great on leash, not pulling at all. Sabrina is doing very well on her house training, she is almost there and she does well in a crate, a treat usually does the trick to get her in at night, and she will lay in the open create during the day or morning when I am getting ready for work. A couple issues we’ve noticed, she is very sensitive about someone trying to pick her up, for example when trying to get her in the truck or car to go for rides. She is also nervous about getting in a vehicle, we aren’t sure why but it’s best to put her in the crate and then put the crate in the car if she needs to go anywhere. She may get better over time so we are working on that. Ok, Sabrina, now it’s your turn;
Thanks Dad! Boy, this is the best place ever! I get to go explore all sorts of new things, Dad and Cale are teaching me lots of things like basic commands, Dad even gives me treats when I get it right, how fantastic is that? He says I’m having trouble with stay though, wouldn’t you if you had never been in a house before? Too much to do and nooks and cranny’s to explore! Oh, yeah, and don’t worry about those vacuum cleaners cause I could care less. I’ve heard of other dogs trying to attack and bite those things, I wonder why? And my Dad, oh he’s the best, when he gets home we get to run and play, he has a huge deck so I get to go inside and outside as much as I want, I just love it here, I get good food and lots of treats and of course tons of love so who can complain about that? Well I gotta get back to work now I have to keep my foster brother (Cale) in check and take a little nap, hope to visit with you soon.
Just a couple of more things about Sabrina, she is up to date on her vaccines but unfortunately is heartworm positive. She is scheduled to be spayed at the end of March so she won’t officially be available until around the first week of April. We are working on scheduling her heartworm treatment as well, remember the rescue will pay for the treatment at one of our "rescue friendly" vets.
