Available Dogs for Adoption

Adoption Proocess

Step 1

Application

Please fill out the adoption application as thoroughly and accurately as possible, this will help us match the right dog for your situation. Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from our organization nor does it guarantee that you will be able to adopt the specific dog you applied for.

Please understand that the adoption process could take several weeks to complete. The process involves an interview with you, a call to your vet to verify that all of your current animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines and heartworm preventative, and a home visit to ensure that your home is both safe and suitable for a German Shepherd dog. We rely solely on volunteers to perform these tasks, please understand that they have very busy lives too, they work, go to school, have children, etc. and our time is as valuable as yours so please be patient. We are committed to finding that perfect dog for all of our applicants, some just take longer than others.

For those applicants who are not located in North and South Carolina, or Virginia we strongly encourage you to check your local shelters and rescue groups. An excellent website you might like to visit is Petfinder. Using this web site, you can enter in all the criteria you want in a dog (breed, age, sex, size) as well as your location and it will find all available dogs in your area.

Step 2

If Approved

Once you have been approved to adopt from us we will contact you about suitable dogs and put you in contact with the foster parent. We strongly recommend that you and your family (dogs included) meet our dog prior to adoption to ensure that they get along with everyone involved. Since the foster parent(s) knows the dog the best they are the ones that make the final decision on which home is the most suitable for adopting our dog.

When you adopt a dog we will have you complete an adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, and we give you a one week trial period to make sure that everything is going to work out. If during that week you decide our dog is not the "perfect match" then you may return him/her to us for a full refund and we can continue to work with you to find another suitable candidate. Sometimes a dog's behavior can change slightly in a new environment, while this rarely occurs it can happen. We will provide all details about the dog's behavior prior to adoption, we do not intentionally hide anything, we are extremely dedicated to these dogs and we want to see them in a happy home more than anyone.

Step 3

Adoption Fee

A $250 non-negotiable adoption fee is required when an adoption is approved (where does the money go?). This money is used to have the dogs spayed/neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, treatment for heartworms if applicable and to keep the rescue going. This fee is critical to sustain our rescue and save more dogs.
