Foster Diary:
WOW…Where do I start with Miss Grace?…I guess we should start with her story as I know it. She came from a lady whose husband used Grace as a kicking post. That being said, she had some male trust issues at first with her foster dad, but has lately become his shadow when her foster mom is not around! She was pregnant when she came to us but she was so traumatized by her former owner that the vet did not catch it and so about two and a half weeks later she surprised us with pups! The two of them are with another foster parent because Gracie had a hard time taking care of them!    continue Needless to say, she is not a good mom, but she is a GREAT friend and protector! She would do well in a home where there is NOT a lot of yelling or quick movements towards each other. Even if it was just play, she does not like it! She has seen way too much violence in her life and would like a friendly environment. She is seven but has come out of her shell to the point that she will assume the puppy play position with her bottom in the air and her head on the ground between her front paws and you wouldn’t guess she was an older girl. She absolutely loves to play ball and will play fetch until your arm falls off. She can catch a Frisbee but if given half a chance will gladly chew it into little pieces and spit them all over the house or yard. I’m still finding yellow pieces of plastic in the back yard when we go out to play! She is very protective of her space (i.e.: the house, car, yard) and will growl a warning to whomever she fills is trespassing. We have not had any visitors come to meet her yet so we really are not sure how she would act towards them. She does just fine meeting new people in a neutral place, outside of her space. When I got ready to give her a bath, I told her to “get in there” and she just jumped right in the tub and was no problem at all to bathe! She is her foster moms shadow, it is like there is no one else in her world when her mom gets home! I really think she will do best with a female only home, but might do well with a man and a woman since she has pretty much begun to understand that her foster dad does not want to hurt her. She has a foster sister that is a Chihuahua and is very jealous of her and will pinch her on the nape of her neck if given the chance. I’m not sure how she will be with other dogs because I have not experienced that yet. She does have some trust issues (understandably) but she is going to make someone a wonderful companion, friend, and protector! She is so smart and willing to please, she just needs someone to love her and show her she can trust people. Also that she can be a dog and play with a ball or other toys and not have to be on alert at all times.
