Hi! I’m Duchess, another newbie to the German Shepherd Rescue. You want my story?? OK, here goes, I’ll warn you though, it’s not the prettiest. You see I was living with this family who had kids and another dog. They kept breeding me to the male and we kept having puppies. Well, not long ago my friend passed away and the family took me to the shelter, something about not needing me anymore because my friend died. I was just devastated and so were the children, they hugged me so hard and just cried and cried and the parents had to pull them away from me. I think that was one of the saddest days

in my whole life, watching my family walk away leaving me in a strange place, I mean what did I do wrong? So, after a few days I got a visitor, she grabbed me up and promised to find me a new home that would never ever give me up again! Can you imagine I went from the saddest day of my life to the happiest!
Well, after a couple of long car rides I arrived at my new “foster” home, it’s so cool here, I get to stay indoors all day, no more days spent outside in the heat and cold. I got a bath (well, that wasn’t so fun) and mom cleaned me up and now my coat is just so soft and pretty. I get to stay with lots of other dogs who I love to play with and one I like to torment just a little bit. All I can say for myself is that she doesn’t have good manners so I’m just trying to teach her, I won’t ever hurt her even though it may sound like it sometimes. I get lots of love and good food, I love to give kisses and I’ll groan in enjoyment for as long as you can stand to pet me.
What mom? You want me to tell them all that too? Really?? Well ok, mom says I have to tell you the important things (I thought I already did!). I’m 5 years old, spayed, up to date on all my shots and I’ve been dewormed. I get along great with other dogs but mom says I shouldn’t be around cats, I like them a little too much, yum! I am perfect in the house and am potty trained, I will go in a crate if absolutely necessary but I really don’t need one. I don’t chew anything inappropriate but I love pig ears and chew toys. I would be great as an only dog or with a canine companion or two, no more than two please because I really, really like attention. In fact mom calls me a shadow because I follow her everywhere! I’m very “motherly” so if you have a younger dog I can teach them the ropes. I love to cuddle and just generally be with you and get lots of love. Mom says my only real fault is that because I want to be with you so badly I get upset if I know you are outside and I’m not, I have a tendency to scratch at the door and have destroyed several of mom’s blinds. She wasn’t too happy but said she’d just have to replace them and now she tries to keep them up higher where I can’t get them.
So, think you could be my forever home? Pleeeeeeeease?
Foster mom here, Duchess is a very sweet soul, she is such a love muffin she’ll crack you up. She has this funny way of itching her back, she’ll back up against the furniture and start barking as she sort of jumps, she sort of “jumps” the length of the furniture all the while barking. It is very funny. One look in this girls eyes and she’ll grab your heart, she’s not had the best life but it doesn’t seem to have affected her spirit at all. She loves to run and play but mostly prefers her humans. So, think you have room in your heart for this sweet girl?
