Founded in 1992, GSRA is a group dedicated to rescuing German Shepherds in North Carolina. The Rescue primarily concentrates on rescuing German Shepherds although it does occasionally take other breeds and mixed breeds. Most of the dogs come from local shelters. Some come from owners who have requested our help in finding a new home for their pet.

501c(3) Organization
GSRA operates as a nonprofit North Carolina corporation and is completely dependent on donations and adoption fees to support its activities. None of the volunteers with our organization are compensated employees. GSRA is a 501c(3) organization and contributions are TAX DEDUCTIBLE in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service regulations.
Funding
The Rescue is funded by donations and in part from the adoption fees charged for the dogs. These donations and adoption fees help to cover some of the costs associated with caring for the dogs.
The Rescue must also pay pound fees which range from $25.00 to $85.00. Every dog coming through the Rescue is checked over by a veterinarian. This includes a vet visit, rabies shot, heartworm test and any tests or treatments the veterinarian deems necessary. All dogs are also spayed or neutered before adoption. In many instances, the dogs have been so neglected or mistreated that they require additional veterinary care, as in the case of dogs with heartworms.
